Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. If you need more information, we are here to help.
Do I have to be Autistic or ADHD to attend?
1
No. While Giles House Psychology has particular experience supporting Autistic and ADHD adults, we welcome anyone seeking thoughtful, neuroaffirming therapy.
Do I need a referral?
2
Not always. If you are paying privately, using private health insurance, or accessing therapy through NDIS, you do not need a referral. If you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP.
Do you work with children/adolescents?
3
Currently we work with adults. As the practice grows and additional clinicians join Giles House Psychology, services may expand to include other age groups.
What happens in the first session?
4
The first session focuses on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’ve been experiencing, what you might like support with, and what feels helpful or unhelpful based on past experiences. There is no expectation to have everything figured out or to explain things perfectly. We can take the time to explore things together.
What if I’m not sure whether therapy is right for me?
5
That’s completely okay. Many people feel unsure when first considering therapy. If something in your life feels difficult, overwhelming, or unsustainable, therapy can provide a space to explore and make sense of it. You’re welcome to reach out with a brief enquiry or question, and we can work out together whether Giles House Psychology might be a helpful place to start.
Do you provide Autism or ADHD assessments?
6
Giles House Psychology currently focuses on therapeutic support rather than diagnostic assessments. If you are seeking an assessment, we may be able to help you find an appropriate service.
Do you work with Autistic or ADHD adults?
7
Yes. Giles House Psychology has particular experience supporting Autistic and ADHD adults, including people who are late-identified or exploring their neurotype. Therapy is neuroaffirming and focuses on understanding your experiences, reducing burnout and self-blame, and developing ways of living that support your needs and wellbeing.
How often will I need to attend therapy?
8
This varies depending on your goals, preferences, and what feels manageable. Many people start with weekly or fortnightly sessions, and later space sessions further apart as things become more stable. We can discuss what rhythm feels most supportive for you.
Do you offer Telehealth sessions?
9
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available across Australia and can be attended from your home or another private space. Many people find Telehealth particularly helpful if they live outside Adelaide, experience fatigue or chronic illness, or prefer the comfort of their own environment.
How do I book in for a session?
10
To arrange an initial appointment, please complete the enquiry form on the Contact page. This helps ensure we understand what you’re looking for and whether the service is a good fit before scheduling your first session.
How do I contact the practice?
11
Giles House Psychology does not operate a phone reception service. You can contact us through email or the Enquiry Form.
How do I make a referral?
12
We welcome referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals. We accept referrals under Medicare, NDIS (self- or plan-managed), Private health cover, and self-referral (private sessions). Referrals can be sent via email to hello@gileshousepsychology.com.au.
We encourage clients to contact us directly once a referral has been sent to us. If we receive a referral and do not hear from the client within a reasonable time, we will follow-up with them. We will then contact you to advise whether the client has engaged in sessions or chosen not to proceed.
*Please note we are not currently accepting new referrals.
