How Therapy Works…
Many people aren’t sure what to expect, and that’s completely okay. It’s normal to feel unsure, nervous, or curious about what the process will be like.
-
Your first appointment is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you might like support with.
There is no pressure to explain everything perfectly or have a clear plan. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
Together we begin building an understanding of what’s going on in your life and what might be helpful moving forward.
-
Therapy is collaborative and guided by your needs, pace, and goals. Where helpful, and with your consent, I work collaboratively with GPs and other health professionals to support continuity of care.
Sessions often focus on:
building self-understanding
making sense of past and present experiences
strengthening emotional and nervous system regulation
reducing self-blame and increasing self-compassion
exploring practical changes that support your wellbeing
Over time, therapy can support greater clarity, self-trust, and connection with yourself and the environments you move through.
-
Therapy sessions run for 50 minutes and are available:
In-person in Adelaide
via Telehealth across Australia
To help maintain continuity of care, many clients choose to book several appointments in advance.
Some people attend weekly or fortnightly at first, and later space sessions further apart. We can work together to find a rhythm that feels supportive and sustainable for you.
Things We Can Support You With
*And any other experiences where greater understanding, support & self-compassion may be helpful.
-
We support Autistic and ADHD adults in ways that honour who they are, while helping navigate the stress of living in a world that is not always designed with their needs in mind.
-
Burnout, chronic stress, and anxiety can arise when demands consistently outweigh capacity - especially for neurodivergent people and those living with chronic illness.
-
Living with chronic pain, fatigue, or health conditions can affect every aspect of life - identity, relationships, work, and sense of self.
-
Many people seek therapy when they’re questioning who they are, what matters, or how to live in a way that feels authentic.
-
We support adults who want to develop a more compassionate and sustainable relationship with their bodies, food, and themselves.
What we don’t offer at Giles House Psychology
Giles House Psychology does not provide crisis or emergency services. If you require immediate support, please contact:
Emergency services – 000
Lifeline – 13 11 14 (https://www.lifeline.org.au/)
or attend your nearest Emergency Department
To ensure clarity and safety, Giles House Psychology does not provide:
Forensic, court-related, or medico-legal assessments or reports
Family law, family separation, or relationship counselling
Alcohol or substance use treatment
Therapy funded through WorkCover, DVA, or insurance claims
In line with a neuroaffirming stance, we do not engage in compliance-based or behaviour-modification approaches that aim to suppress neurodivergent traits, encourage masking, or prioritise conformity to neurotypical norms at the expense of wellbeing.
A gentle reminder
You don’t need a diagnosis, referral, or clear explanation to begin
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or simply curious about understanding yourself better, therapy can be a place to start.
